Manual lock pick guns were originally developed for US law enforcement to provide quick and easy non-destructive entry. And while electronic pick guns have more power, the manual version is always ready and has no batteries to run out.
A classic piece of locksmiths kit that everyone working with locks should have in their bag.
The needle flicks in the lock, causing the pins to jump, and since you're applying tension to the lock (tension tool supplied) the pins can rest on the ledge created and allow the lock to open.
