SouthOrd 5 Piece Comb Pick Set

An easy and fast technique to open padlocks

Comb Picks exploit a vulnerability in some padlocks that means you can open them about the same speed as a key. Basically, if you can push BOTH pins in each stack out of the plug, there's nothing obstructing it so it's free to turn and the lock opens.

You simply insert the comb pick, line up the prongs with the pins, which can take some trial and error (although some padlocks have the spacing of the pins on the outside of the lock where they fitted them, so you can occasionally match the comb pick up with those) then push all the pins out of the plug and into the padlock housing and BOOM! The lock opens.

Not all padlocks are vulnerable to this technique, but it's definitely worth having some comb picks in your bag as there's lot of padlocks out there.

Although there are still millions of padlocks that are open to this vulnerability, manufacturers have, thankfully, largely put a stop to this exploit, so do not expect to open high-security padlocks with comb picks. However, a lot of our customers thin their comb picks down on a bench grinder or some glass-paper to make them a thinner gauge and therefore able to fit more padlocks.
